It happened during a job interview
at a company's recruitment drive.
어느 회사 신입사원
면접 시험장에서 있었던 일입니다.
The applicants proudly filed into the interview
room with their letters of recommendation.
응시한 수험생들은 나름대로
추천장을 하나씩 들고
의기양양하게 면접에 임했습니다.
However, the company's president hired a young
man who was without a recommendation.
그런데 이 회사 사장은
추천장을 가지고 온 수험생은
모두 불합격시키고
추천장이 없는 한 젊은이를
합격시키는 것이었습니다.
The company examiners wondered about
the decision and asked him about it.
The president then said.
의아해 하는 심사위원들이 그 이유를 묻자,
사장은 이렇게 말했습니다.
This young man showed us his recommendation
letter by his own behavior.
그 젊은이야말로 행동으로 추천장을 보여 주었소.
First, he cleaned the soil from his shoes
before he came in the room and he closed
the door quietly.
첫째 그는 문에 들어서기 전에
구두에 묻은 흙을 털고 들어 와서
문을 조용히 닫았으며
Second, he surrendered his seat to the old man.
둘째 노인이 들어오는 것을 보고
즉시 앉았던 자리를 양보해 주었고
Third, I left a piece of paper on the floor
and the young man picked it up as soon
as he noticed it.
셋째 내가 미리 시험장 바닥에
휴지를 떨어뜨려 두었는데
그 젊은이는 보자마자 얼른 주웠으며
Fourth, though his clothes were worn,
they were clean.
넷째 옷을 보니 낡은 옷이었는데
깨끗이 빨아 입었으니
Can you tell me of a better recommendation?
그보다 훌륭한 추천장이 어디 있단 말이오.
